Prologue: Iris.

The TV blared to life as Iris sat down next to her parents and brother. She thought it was stupid to watch the election; America had already hit its low, so why bother with another? No one could fix us…
A woman in a royal blue business suit had stepped up to the wooden podium with a confident smile strained across her face. “Ladies and gentlemen of the United States of America, I am so honored to be standing before you. My name is Alexandra Woods. As you all know, I am the second finalist in this 2020 electi-”  Loud pops bloomed from the screen and Alexandra fell to the floor, along with other people who were sitting in the background of the stage.
Iris’s mother gasped and her father sat soundlessly, staring hard into the screen as if expecting Alexandra Woods to get up and laugh about her sick joke. Her younger brother’s eyes widened. Iris, however, wasn’t really bothered by what had happened on the screen.
Many shootings had been dotting across the States for years. Many of the shooters were caught, but later either committed suicide or were murdered. Iris had grown bored of the not-so-shocking news every time a situation like this occurred. However, something about this one seemed odd... Not an act of rebellion, but more of an act of dominance, she decidedly thought.
Suddenly, the doors that held entrance to their house violently cracked from their hinges, allowing easy access. A split second later, men who wore peculiar looking military uniforms gathered around them. They weren’t U.S. soldiers, that of which she was sure.
“On your knees!” one of them shouted. Iris’s family did as they were told.
“Plea-“ Iris’s mom began, but was quickly silenced with a bullet in her throat, she gurgled before making a loud thump on the carpeted floor. Her father and brother soon met the same fate.
Iris’s bullet was angled at her throat as well, but somehow struck her lower. Instead of collapsing immediately, she felt white hot pain surge throughout her shoulders and chest, spreading into her arms. For the first time ever, Iris’s heart rate skyrocketed, and she felt, Scared…
Moments later, she felt her cheek slap against the leather couch before floating into a black abyss…
